Ehmedo

Aynur_1 Through some funny coincidence I once learned about the film Crossing the Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul, assisted the movie here in Rio. And I must confess that this music of Aynur Dogan fascinates me for a long time, a certain depth I have not found yet in any kind of music from Brazil or abroad. The sound and acoustics of her life recording in an old Hammam, a Turkish bath, makes it my favorite all time... Aynur Dogan_ehmedo_live.mp3

Brasil, país do futuro

Zweig_1 ...is one of the most important books in my life and which my Dad gave me once. Blame it on that book that one day I came to Brazil. Everybody who is curious and fascinated about Brazil I recommend reading it.
Stefan Zweig fled from Europe during WW2 and projected on Brazil his hope for peace for humanity. And all of us foreigners living  here have their own personal projections on this country which is fascinating and no Brazilian understands.
His house in Petropolis will become a museum soon and The National Library will host a Stefan Zweig exhibition in August. L&PM is expected to launch a new edition of the book the same month.

Women, Business, Brazil

High_heels2Making business in this country as a woman, what a challenge!
Saia curta e justa, sentar bota.... that´s  what I´ve been taught lately. Hard job and all you need is a wide collection of high heels.

Ultraviolet

Ultraviolet2 I know most of the critics and you condemn these movies, but I must admit that I recently enjoy some Sci-Fi movies and I love to see strong Heroines on screen, Aeon Flux or Ultraviolet, even if it is just for the sake of a great music you discover in the soundtrack, a single line, which makes the movie worth seeing....
And I can't believe
How I've been wasting my time.
It is over tonight.

Me personally speaking have been wasting 2 much time on some persons in this country. And I will not waste any more. Download jem_24.mp3

Truth does not hurt

Hotskin_1 Only that Brazilians do not dare to face it.
Everything here in business is just: "show de bola", "estamos junto nisso", "beleza".
Us gringos have to learn and accept these millions shades of grey tones, even if we are accustomed and love to think in pure black and white... a question of "take it or leave it".
Different country, different rules. So much patience required which almost kills us.

Blogging these days

And I am torn between commenting on some hot issues of the Brazilian market and economy  like the reasons why Brazil is not on the global R&D map versus gossip on Vogue, things that sell most on Ann Summer, girly stuff... Seems bizarre, but just a day in the life of a Brazilian entrepreneur who loves to listen to some good music like the one from Osunlade at the end of a business day when the sun went down! Sein oder nicht sein, das ist hier die Frage

"Die Leute in Brasilien haben zu wenig Kohle und heiraten zu frueh um ein ausgepraegtes Stil-bewusstsein zu entwickeln."
Generally true, just walking down the streets of Rio and you willl realise.
Besides, Carioca men seem to be the worst dressed men on earth in their beach style sneekers and bermudas and still think they are THE best (machos). Spending days and nights in Gyms working on their muscles does not compensate for a lack of intelligence and style.
Sein oder Nicht-Sein, das ist die Frage.
Nevertheless we call Rio our home and are willing to teach them something.

Feliz Páscoa!

Easteregg_1Here comes a very special musical easter egg. Some really nice deep dub. So deep like Zona Sul´s easter eggs are hanging from the ceiling that tall people keep head-banging chocolate. A tribute to F.! Download dub_minded_easter_egg.mp3

Late Night Reflections

Q: what is your .. THE two sylable word in the whole wide world?
Speaking to myself: What language do I live, feel in and with?
A: "intense".
What a powerful word, yet true in each and every sense...
Just beware of crashing in life. It comes together somehow.
