Do not miss the inauguration of the exhibition UniversidArte XIV on May 23rd in Rio, when the University campus of Estácio de Sá will host 308 Brazilian artists and their 600 art works in design, sculptures, photography, objects, video art, performances and other contemporary media. Featured artist: my dear friend Aline Sofia. You find her art also at the Moka Gallery in Chicago or in the NY Arts Magazine. The artwork on the pic is hanging on my wall.

Erotica - Os Sentidos na Arte

Opening today in CCBB Rio (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil) the exhibition of Erotic Art. Archeological objects, paintings, sculptures, pictures and videos compose an erotic panaorama. From ancient pieces of art to traditional and modern objects, national and international artist such as Rodin, Ismael Nery, Eric Fischl, Eliseu Visconti, Edgard de Souza, Nan Goldin, Pablo Picasso and Rosangela Rennó show a reflection about art to interpret the sexual impulse. Until April 30th, Thursday - Sunday from 10h to 21h.

How to spend it - this weekend in SP

30 hours left over before Rio gets totally crazy and a chaos with the Rolling Stones concert on Copacabana Beach, my turn to draw your attention to the MAM in São Paulo and two great exhibitions.
Veracidade: “Veracidade” is concerned as much with the act of photographing in an urban environment as with being a synonym of the word veracity, an essence of photography. It investigates this evolution from the view of urban spaces, the direct reflex of the disquieting influences surrounding contemporary man,” explains curator Eder Chiodetto. O Brasil de Pierre Verger: 290 photographs of the French artist and world traveler who set down roots in Salvador, rendering homage on the tenth anniversary of this photographer’s death and to the sixty years during which he lived intensely in Bahia. Of the images that will be shown, 70% have never been seen before. The exhibit emphasizes the loving relationship Pierre Verger (1902-1996) had with Brazil and, in particular, his probing visual research of Bahian culture and religion in which he involved himself until his final years. The exhibition will be at MAM Rio de Janeiro from May 15 trough July and at the MAM Salvador from August 6 until October. Pic Pierre Verger "Festa dos Navegantes".

The Art of Soccer

"Ball im Kopf - Kult ums Kicken" - an exhibition in Hamburg of designers fotographers and stylists and else about soccer, a most entertaining overview of the way in which the cult of football dominates the world.
My preferred "piece of the exhibition": those sexy high heels by Freddy Contreras (pic by Angela Franke), But gotta admit: maybe not really suitable and comfortable to win a soccer game, but....maybe another goal ;-)
You find them at The Museum fuer Kunst und Gewerbe until Feb 26th.

 

Box 4

Art Gallery Box 4 at Praça General Osório in Ipanema inaugurated on Jan 26th with a spectacular foto exhibition "Paisagem Submersa". Fotographers João Castilho, Pedro David and Pedro Motta from Minas Gerais show the relocation of 1.151 families from Jequitinhonha due to the hydroelectric project in Irapé. Dancing Soccer

Famous Brazilian choreographer Deborah Colker openend last Wednesday in Hamburg the official Artistic and Cultural Programme for FIFA World Cup 2006 (the part dance, performance, theatre). The performance Maracanã shows "16 Brazilian and German dancers, inspired by the fascinating world of football to make virtuoso encounters, enter into a racy, choreographic match."
You have until Feb 5th to see it in Hamburg at Kampnagel, and later in Cologne, Luebeck, Dortmund, Frankfurt and Ludwigsburg, Germany, then in Austria (Innsbruck and Graz) and Croatia ( Zagreb).

And once you go to Hamburg do not miss another highlight in the Museum fuer Voelkerkunde, the exhibition Brazil´s Modernismo in the early 20th century. Many of the 80 artworks are for the first time shown out of Brazil.
